First Cria 2019

The wait is over and Alkmaar Aurelia has unpacked a beautiful white male cria today sired by RD Yahudi. We were expecting a high-quality cria from this mating and at this early stage it does not look like we will be disappointed!

We were hoping that Aurelia might break the drought and give us a female but like all our other high-end breeding female puchases she has delivered a male. C'est la vie, we should at least have some fun with him on the show circuit, and perhaps a stud career awaits if he proves worthy.

Rustic Dawn Yahudi

Rustic Dawn Yahudi's stud career has gotten off to a stellar start with his son, Rustic Dawn Iolaus, already chalking up 3 broad ribbons from a very limited show career, thus far. He won 2 of those broad ribbons at the recent Banks Peninsula Fleece Show, beating some of New Zealands best performed alpacas in the process. The outstanding fact is that RD Yahudi has only 2 cria on the ground currently.

Iolaus follows in the footsteps of his well-performed sire, and illustrious grand-sire (Algoma Chaska) and is testament to the quality of cria RD Yahudi can and will continue to produce. We now eagerly await his next cria due to the very well-credentialled Alkmaar Aurelia in about a months time.

RD Yahudi's lovely champagne fawn colouration is just a delight to behold!.

Banks Peninsula Show 2019

What an amazing day out at the Banks Peninsula Fleece Show. We entered 2 fleeces, and both won championships, in fact 3 in total.

Rustic Dawn Iolaus won his class, Champion Intermediate Fleece, and Champion Mid/Dark Fawn Fleece - score 85 pts. An absolutely great result for our breeding strategies being by our home-bred sire, Rustic Dawn Yahudi.

Bemersyde Estate Bronson continued his fine form by winning his class, and Champion Senior Fleece, his 3rd successive Championship - score 84.5 pts.

The magnitude of their successes was stamped by the extremely high quality of their opposition. This was the first time we have won broad ribbons at this top-quality show, so to win 3, well, needless to say we are over the moon. We look forward to these 2 absolutely stunning males impacting upon our herd in forthcoming years.

Bronson Working

Our latest stud male BE Bronson has started his matings. Being a year older than we would normally start a male working we were curious as to whether he would take long to adjust to his new role. We needn't have bothered as he picked it all up very quickly and is a willing worker. We have used him over a number of our girls already and he will be covering the majority of our herd.

For us he is near perfect, bringing to our herd his incredible retained fineness whilst still retaining a lovely definitive fleece style. It's a rare combination in a mature male to the high degree that he holds both. Add to this the fact he was also our second heaviest cutting fleece at shearing combined with his placid nature and it's no wonder we are looking forward to his future progeny.

First Show 2019

We have sent in our first 2 entries for the 2019 show season to the Little River Fleece show in Banks Peninsula.

It's always a tough show with high class entries but an excellent opportunity to gauge where we're at with our breeding program. We're here to produce the best quality alpacas we can and to be the best you have to beat the best. Last year we went close to picking up a broad ribbon with RD Bobberfitzen against tough opposition, while Alkmaar Aurelia scored very well but not quite well enough.

Two different entrants this year and maybe we can go one (or two) better in 2019?

Rustic Dawn Mr Brightside

Finally we have our first cria of the seaon born to our recent acquisition, Shamarra Celeste. A wonderful fawn boy sired by Softfoot Shah ET whom we have named Mr Brightside.

He was born at Shamarra, and Shamarra Celeste will be re-served in approx 3 weeks time by another of their great sires in Softfoot Casstalas MD ET. Following that Shamarra Celeste will move here with RD Mr Brightside at foot. He is doing very well and apparently leading his mum a merry chase already. Early days but he reportedly has a lustrous, fine and dense fleece so we'll be looking forward to seeing him up close and personal in due course.

We at Rustic Dawn Alpacas would like to take this opportunity to wish all our family, friends, traders and site visitors the very best wishes for the festive seaon and into the future.

Beyond all the commercialism, may you find love, laughter, health and happiness.

All the best for an amazing 2019!
